What’s the name all about?
Well, Beer Engine is named to reflect the makers of the products we aim to represent. Small companies, focused on making their product the best it possibly can be. The name also tells a different story however. The name of the pumps your real ale comes from are called "Beer Engines". We don't just sell beer in fact we are known for our huge range of Gins So "Beer & Gins"
It is also a reminder to the people running the business of the motivations and aims set out when the bar was founded. Southwick Beer Engine is a platform to showcase the best of the independents. We believe that the cornerstone of providing a great environment for you to enjoy, is to focus on the quality of product and service first, and the size of our profit margin second.
The bar is a free of tie premises who’s driving motivation is to stay small, to stay independent, and to show that to be great, you don’t have to be big!
Since we opened our doors in July 2018 the bar has evolved to become what it is now. The question always asked is “is it finished now?” and the reply is 'who knows'!
We always have and always will try to meet the needs of our customers in the best way we can. In our short history we have been humbled by the welcome Southwick has given us, which has helped in making The Beer Engine what it is.
Of course we are not just known for the quality of our real ales. Our Wine and Spirits selection is always received well, and again we focus on quality over price, but always remain competitive. Our extensive Gin selection comes from all over the world giving you the ability to try plenty of different Gins at sensible prices.
In short whatever you like and whoever you are at the Southwick Beer Engine you’re very welcome.

Music is Back
Our music is now back albeit now mostly on a Sunday afternoon.
The reason we have cut back on the amount of Music performances is we listened to our customers, and the fact is customers liked the fact they could chat on a Friday evening. Also it allows us to do more bespoke events on both Friday and Saturday evenings.
Our local music scene was very well loved and supported, however pub?bar life has changed and currently what was the bars less busy times are now the busy times and vise versa!
So we have a full line up on Sundays afternoons (3pm start) Please remember we don't charge or add any form of music tax to drinks prices, but the artisists are still playing for a low fee and would love to see you add to the "music tips jug" which will be on the bar and also taken around during the gig. If you love live music a couple of quid in the jug from everyone goes a long way with keeping Live Music at The Beer Engine.
